2 Million Turkeys Die for Nothing

The most recent salmonella recall–this time, 36 million pounds of tainted turkey– illustrates again the incredibly dangerous and wasteful process that factory farming has become. If you assume about 18 pounds per bird, that comes out to around 2 million turkeys that were bred, born, slaughtered, “processed,” shipped– and just thrown away. Even if you’re the most ardent carnivore in the world–even if you like to pay high dollar for trendy braised pig cheeks and lamb belly–this ought to turn your stomach.
