Remembering September 11 in Poetry

In honor of the victims of the September 11 attacks, here is former U. S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins reading his poem, “The Names.” You can read it, hear him read it, or watch him read it before the Congress.

I’ve kept this poem in my tickler file for a couple of years so that I’ll see it every few months. Sometimes it seems that all we can do is remember, but we must at least do that.
